Position Summary,

As part of the Construction & Engineering team, your role involves offering engineering expertise in the design, functioning, and problem-solving of electrical components and systems specific to construction projects. Additionally, you will supervise installation and maintenance tasks. Collaborating with a team of skilled engineers from various fields, you will be instrumental in designing, constructing, and bringing online infrastructure components for the power grid.

Responsibilities

This role involves collaboration within a team of engineering disciplines to create detailed electrical designs and specifications for installing various systems and equipment, such as:

  • Electrical power distribution systems.
  • Switchgear and motor control centers.
  • Exterior and interior lighting.
  • Ground support system controls with ladder logic.
  • Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) units.
  • Standby and emergency generators.
  • Automatic transfer switches.
  • Power monitoring hardware and software.
  • Data/phone distribution and wiring.
  • Building and site grounding systems.
  • Fire alarm systems and lightning protection systems.

The position also includes providing electrical engineering assistance to facility technicians for diagnosing issues with existing electrical equipment and controllers. Responsibilities extend to supporting the design, operation, and troubleshooting of all electrical components and systems in the facility. This encompasses:

  • Load flow analysis of electrical power distribution systems.
  • Evaluation of electrical equipment.
  • Building and facility equipment grounding.
  • Power monitoring hardware and software.

The role requires ensuring that all equipment integrates correctly with other mechanical and electrical systems, aligning with the facility’s power budgets. Coordination of all electrical installations and maintenance activities with local electrical utility personnel is crucial.

An essential part of the job is ensuring that all electrical designs and installations comply with relevant codes and regulations. This involves conducting code reviews and analyses using various standards such as NFPA 70E, NFPA 70 NEC, NFPA 497, NFPA 101, Vol 5 & 6 AFSPCMAN 91-710, and IBC.

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering
  • P.E. (Professional Engineer License)
  • 5 years of related experience

Desired:

  • Proficient in engineering research, including concepts, theories, practices, and methods in a specialized area, potentially with an in-depth understanding of other engineering disciplines.
  • Experience in an electrical utility, demonstrating a range of expertise in electrical engineering roles such as power system studies, system planning and operations, engineering design, equipment specification, and development of work methods and procedures.
  • Familiarity with both current and emerging technologies relevant to the specialty area.
  • Involvement in industry leadership, contributing to the development of industry standards.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of quality assurance and control principles and practices.
  • Skilled in investigative and analytical problem-solving techniques.
  • Strong organizational abilities, essential for effective monitoring and management of designs.
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills, enabling clear and effective delivery of findings and recommendations to clients at various levels.
  • Proficient in project management and team leadership, capable of guiding projects to successful completion.
  • A strong focus on customer service, with the flexibility to adapt project plans and team direction to meet customer requirements.
