Position Summary,

This engineering role is centered around systems, with a strong emphasis on automation, encompassing a broad range of skills. The engineer leverages their knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems in the design of integral primary systems, support facilities, and control systems. They are involved in the development and integration of physical hardware, including wire harnesses, PCBs, custom enclosures, PLCs, data acquisition systems, and motor controllers. These advanced automation and control systems are crucial in supporting operations, ensuring the safe, economical, and reliable functioning of systems.

Responsibilities

This position involves:

  • Ensuring the functionality of all control voltage level electrical systems (<60V).
  • Designing and enhancing data acquisition and control systems.
  • Innovating automation systems for water and power stations.
  • Offering technical support and advice to controls technicians and other engineering groups not specialized in controls.
  • Creating new hardware and processes to enhance the efficiency, reduce the cost, and minimize the setup time of electrical systems.
  • Analyzing data to evaluate the performance and condition of electrical systems.
  • Aiding in the design and analysis of experiments for the assessment of test articles.

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering
  • P.E. (Professional Engineer License)
  • 10 years of related experience

  • Experience in designing and installing instrumentation and control systems in hazardous environments (NFPA 70 Section 500 installations), including Class 1, Division 1 and 2 environments, or IEC equivalents.
  • Knowledge of mixed signal electronics, power supply design, analog filtering, along with testing and troubleshooting techniques, signal integrity, layout, and grounding principles.
  • Skills in schematic capture and printed circuit board (PCB) design, verification, and validation.
  • Experience with electrical power distribution and familiarity with NFPA 70 and NFPA 70E.
  • Direct experience in programming and software development.
  • Proficiency with industrial bus protocols such as Modbus, Profinet, and EtherNet/IP.
  • Hands-on experience in activating, constructing, and diagnosing analog & digital electronic systems.
