Data Center
EETS designs the high-voltage substations and power infrastructure that bring AI data centers online, from utility interconnection through medium-voltage distribution to the campus. Our engineers support every phase of a project, including interconnection application support, substation and protection design, engineering studies, equipment procurement, and construction support. We focus on fast-tracked, redundant designs that meet the aggressive schedules of AI growth and deliver the reliable power that critical facilities demand.

230kV AI Data Center Substation
EETS is designing a new substation to power an AI data center campus in Northern California. Two radial 230kV utility feeds each serve a 150MVA, 230kV:34.5kV power transformer. Under normal operation, each transformer carries half of the 150MVA campus load, and either one can pick up the full load if the other is lost. As lead electrical engineer, EETS is delivering a compact design on a constrained site, on a fast-tracked schedule driven by AI demand, while adapting to evolving client requirements and agency reviews throughout design.
Scope of work includes:
- 230kV utility interconnection with two radial transmission feeds
- Two 150MVA, 230kV:34.5kV power transformers, sized for full-load redundancy
- Two lineups of 34.5kV switchgear with tie breakers
- 50 MVA battery energy storage system (BESS) interconnection
- Power factor correction capacitor bank
- Protective relaying design for the substation, including relay schemes, settings, and control schematics
- Substation DC system
- Control building for protective relaying and controls
- Substation layout within a limited site footprint
- Engineering studies, including short circuit, time-current coordination, ground grid analysis, and cable thermal analysis
- Utility coordination and construction support
